I’m so skeptical of people who enjoy working out. Does being out of breath, sweating profusely and inflicting pain upon yourself bring you happiness? You’re not human. Ever see those scenes in movies where a friend convinces another to throw all of their anger and frustration or hurt into a gym session? Has anyone ever related to this because I all I’ve ever got from going to the gym is more frustration with the thoughts of going! Then they hit you with “Once you get into your routine, you’ll enjoy going everyday”.. NOPE. Maybe the gym just isn’t for everyone and that’s what I’ve been telling myself. However, I also hate every other form of physical activity unless it involves dancing of some kind, which I participate in either while drunk on a dance floor or going to an actual dance class on my days off. Anyway the point of this post is to give you some suggestions for home workouts. Abs in particular because that’s all I really work on and my friends sometimes ask me what I do to get my tummy toned. The answer is YouTube videos and I have a collection of videos that work best for me and maybe you too.
I use many of her videos and I find her extremely motivating. She has a non-irritable voice like a lot of those workout videos. She’s so encouraging even though she has no idea who you are or what you’re doing. Sitting on the couch eating chocolate while blaring a workout video to make your roommates think you’re getting fit? She’s still got your back, “Keep it going, just 20 seconds left. Keep thinking about that bikini-ready tummy”. Here’s my favorite of her ab videos that I’ve found to be easy to follow and repeat every morning. Some moves are difficult but that’s the great thing about XHIT, they have so many different workouts so you can swap out any moves from another video, as long as you keep yourself moving.
These two are amazing butt work out videos which is one of the most difficult parts of the body to work on because I think everyone can agree with me when I say sometimes I’d rather do 1,000 jumping jacks than feel that uncomfortable feeling in my thighs and butt during squats. I actually combine moves from both of these videos and just do ten minutes. I eliminate most of the squats from my made-up workout because I really don’t need that kind of pain in my life RN. Go you if you can power through the Kim K workout! Side note: I am not a Kardashian fan.
Okay so when I was talking about XHIT, I did mention that Rebecca-Louise is the least annoying coach but the award for most annoying workout voice goes to this guy below. BUT the workouts are great and they never feel very long because you’re not repeating moves. I really feel my muscles at work and it’s not overly uncomfortable. If you get bored easily like me, you can change it up each day with either of these videos.
A cardio blast is always a good idea before toning and again, this post is for the lazy people like me so if you don’t like putting yourself through all of the jumping and the physical exertion, this will be over before you know it.
If you’re not always as lazy as me and you do enjoy a good energetic workout, this one is great because you can follow the girl on the right to start and then try the advanced version with the girl on the left as time goes on. The steps are not too difficult but still at the right intensity. Jillian is very motivating throughout the workout making it easier to push through the need to take a break. And she kind of reminds me of Paula Abdul a little bit no?
I think fitness and nutrition has become so huge with our generation because everyone is put on display on social media and there’s more pressure to stay fit and eat well. That and we’re much more aware of the effects of processed food than we were 15 years ago (for any of my Irish friends, you’ll remember Billy Roll, yaaass). This is a great thing! I’ve seen so many transformations on my Facebook timeline over the past thee years in particular and I truly admire everyone that has kept it up because we all know how hard it is to say no to the sweets. Of course, in order to actually build abs you have to eat well constantly and be strong enough to push through the odd offer of a square of chocolate. If you combine both, you’re guaranteed to see a difference within just two months.
